Winter closet essentials

10:44 PM

And today is December 2nd, which is absolutely insane.
After a long year of silence (spent in the USA), I thought what a better blog post than a wintery, cozy one.
So here we are: my winter closet essentials, and some of the pieces in my wishlist.

I was very unsure on how to organize and write this post, because I haven't been doing much shopping lately. Therefore, most of these clothes aren't from this year's collections, but have been working for me for multiple years. However, I thought I would leave some similar items for you to check out from some of my favorite shops.

Layering and muted colors

My mom always says that, when winter comes, the "onion style" comes too: basically, layering becomes necessary to survival.
Soft cashmere, thin wool and thick knitwear are the best choices for cardigans and throw ons. These are also the perfect pieces for displaying some color, especially in a season when we're so tempted to always wear black and gray.
This pastel pink cardigan is the perfect solution for me: it's very 80s/90s (which is the trend right now), it originally was my cousin's (some saving made right here), and it can be paired with skirts, jeans, and a wide range of colors.

Some of the pieces I've found that are similar to this one and that's I'm really thriving to purchase are:
ASOS
Zara
Topshop
Urban Outfitters

Cropped sweaters and lighter jumpers

Knitwear is just my favorite section of all of the clothing shops in winter.
Cropped sweaters and jumpers are an alternative to the sometimes boring collection of very similar jumpers we all have in our closet. They're very easy to layer and look amazing with a pair of high waisted jeans (which I love to death). It's an easy alternative to long sweaters and jumpers, which may make you feel really hot during the day or, when they're too oversized, may be just uncomfortable. The one I've chosen here is a purchase of a year ago and I've been getting so much use out of it.
Some really cute alternatives to this one are:
ASOS
Zara
UA

Thinner sweaters and jumpers are a must for me as well: there are those hotter days in the winter and I always like to make sure I have the possibility to take some layers off and not feel hot (remember: the onion style). This very light piece of knitwear is from H&M's 2014 collection (I believe), however, since they're totally in fashion this year, there are numerous alternatives to this one:
ASOS
H&M
Zara
Pull&Bear
UA

Thick sweaters

I know, I know, I'm being so predictable. But I love jumpers, there's nothing I can do about it. When you're in a cafe in the city centre, with a cup of hot tea, snuggled into your cozy jumper: that just screams winter to me.
The jumper I chose to show you today is from Gap, it's from the 2015 collection, its awesome quality and color make it a true staple in my closet. I'm obsessed with the look of the knit, which kind of reminds me of corduroy.

Some of my 2016 favorites are:

Mom jeans

Jeans are probably a staple in all of our closets. However, there's always some fuss about them: too tight to be comfortable, too baggy to be classy, too short to be worn in the winter, too long and thick for the summer.
High waisted mom jeans are just the best and, in my opinion, the perfect compromise. When I throw them on in the morning, always in a rush in order not to miss the bus, they fit like a glove and it almost feels like I'm still in my pajamas (unfortunately, it's just an illusion, uh).
I know all jeans are easy to style. However, I find mom jeans extremely basic, but at the same time very "trendy" (is this word even still in use?), and ever easier to style because they're such a statement in their simplicity.

My favorites are:
ASOS
Pull&Bear
UA

Now, I can only wish you a happy shopping!
Hope you liked this post :)

If you wish, leave a comment below. I would love to read your opinions and your blogs as well.

Wishing you a wonderful day,

  2. Great list of essentials! One can't have enough thick sweaters. Thankfully, temperatures have lowered here in Southern California so that means I can finally start layering! :]

    1. I wish I lived in California! Here in Northern Italy it's really cold already (not as cold as it was when I was in South Dakota though lol).

      Have a lovely day!

  3. I love wearing light sweaters with a thick coat! Love your grey knitted sweater, although I couldn't step out with that as it's really cold here in Germany.

    1. It's getting crazy cold here in Italy as well. I know, but heating in shops and workplaces is unbearable! So I have to choose whether to go light or explode lol
