Treating dry hair with Moroccanoil

8:54 AM

Whenever I went shopping for beauty products, the word that I would use the most was "oily". Shampoo for oily scalp, weightless conditioner, mattifying foundation and God forbid moisturizer!
Then I had some hormonal disbalances and I found myself noticing in horror that my long, luscious hair was now dry. Those oils that I cursed every single day were actually the ones that made my hair look as good as it did. They also enabled be to keep it very very long.

But I managed to turn this around.

(This blog post is not sponsored)

Dryness can occur as the consequence of many factors. For example, it could be caused by stress, too frequent washes, dye or mistreatment (i.e: making a ponytail every day).

My hair is one of my favorite features, so you can only imagine my disbelief when I looked at it and all I saw was a fragile, dull, thinner mass of neverending hair.
Thanks to the best hairdresser I have ever met (check The Atoley Salon on Facebook if you live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, and ask for Jodi, she's THE BEST) I understood that my hair had two problems:

  • It had been too long for too long
  • I was pulling, braiding and spraying way too much
  • I wasn't brushing my hair with the right brush
  • I wasn't using the right products.
Now, the first three points were very easy to solve. I asked Jodi to cut my hair (rigorously with a picture of Blake Lively to show) and bought a new brush.
But what about the products? What was I supposed to buy?
Jodi sold me these two products which I have not separated from since.

Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask

CHARACTERISTICS
It is described as «high-performance, rich and creamy deep conditioner formulated for medium to thick, dry hair», which totally describes the characteristics of my hair. It is «infused with antioxidant-rich argan oil and nourishing ingredients, it hydrates and conditions while dramatically improving hair's texture, elasticity, shine, and manageability».

HOW TO
I usually shampoo my hair, apply the mask thoroughly on my hair and leave it on for around 10 minutes.

MY OPINION
This product has a creamy but firm consistency, it is white in color and has a recognizable however not overwhelming sweet scent of Argan Oil and of something exotic that I can't describe.
In my opinion, it has good hydrating properties, but even better repairing ones. Since I've started using this product (in January), I've noticed a significant decrease of split ends and my hair has been thicker and more voluminous than ever.

Moroccanoil Treatment Original

CHARACTERISTICS
It is described as «a conditioning, styling and finishing tool» and «the product that pioneered oil-infused hair care and created the worldwide buzz on argan oil». It is also supposed to «detangle, speed up drying time and boost shine—leaving you with nourished, manageable and smooth hair with each use».

HOW TO
Since my hair is very thick, dense and long, right after I come out of the shower I dab my hair with a towel and I divide it in half down my scalp. I use one pump on one-half and one pump on the other, applying the oil from mid-length to ends (really massaging it on the ends). Then I "reunite" my hair back in one big group and I apply one more pump of the oil. I then go on brushing my hair, which is now a completely painless process.

MY OPINION
In my opinion, this is without a doubt the product that has changed the aspect of my hair. Not only it smells amazing, has a beautiful yellow-golden color and a not too solid but not too runny consistency, but it also really does what it says.
Since I've started using it, I get compliments on my hair all the time: even strangers stop me by to tell me how shiny my hair is (strangers stopping you on the streets to compliment you happens pretty often in Italy). Plus, I've found that this product doesn't make my hair oily at all - it hydrates it and makes it very light-reflecting, which is such a plus.
